As one of the Challenge 100 Top 100 Patrols,
the Woodpeckers were invited to take part in the "Live 07"
shows to celebrate the centenary of Scouting, at the O2
Arena in London.
We drove down on Friday night
and slept on the floor of a Scout HQ. At least we did
not have to leave at 5 a.m. like the Salisbury Scouts!
The O2 looked amazing just like a bald hedgehog and it was
so huge and gigantic. Despite a rehearsal we had a lot
of waiting around in the dressing rooms. We had plenty
to eat, not sure that it qualified for the healthy eating
badge.
Meanwhile family members were
travelling to London by train and looking at all the
Scouting entertainments and displays at the O2.
Some of our parents were sat
right up high, so they had a real bird's eye view.
After doing our giant jigsaw as
members of the blue team, we changed into uniform for the
finale. We were given flashing lights to attach to our
woggles for the song One Vision. There we were in a
3000 member choir singing and dancing in front of 15,000
people.

After the afternoon show our
parents rang us to say how good it was. We changed
into our green shirts for the evening performance and went
into the arena where the huge cast had tea.
The evening performance was even
more amazing, especially the finale. Then it was out
into the night, the O2 Arena's dome looked phenomenal lit up
at night. The Scouts from Warrington who shared the
hall with us also had a great time. It did not take
long to get to sleep.
Sunday was nearly a disaster as
we arrived at Brent Cross Shopping Centre at 11 am and saw
all of these amazing shops which did not open until noon.
But we had a look to see what was there, then went into
McDonalds for a snack.
The shops opened and we spent two glorious hours
shopping. We dumped our Leader in a booked shop as we
didn't want him cramping our style as men don't know how to
shop!! We bought each other small presents, they were
great.
Woodpeckers Fly To 2nd Place Out
Of 3,500 National Patrols
To celebrate the Centenary of Scouting
there was a national competition for all Scout Patrols
during January. Our 3 Patrols were amongst the
3,500 Patrols taking part and all 3 did very well taking
part with lots of enthusiasm and skill. The
average national score was 51 points and our Patrols all
exceeded this with scores of:-
Eagles 68
Kestrels 59
Woodpeckers 91
The phenomenal score by the Woodpeckers,
our youngest Patrol, has sent them flying high in the
national charts in joint 23rd place behind the
Panthers of the 2nd Rusthall,
Tunbridge Wells, Kent who top scored 102. The
Woodpeckers are the only Leicestershire Patrol in the
top 100.
The Woodpeckers completed all 100
challenges in 100 days for the second phase of the
competition and gained joint second place, a truly
phenomenal result that required a huge amount of effort
and persistence.
