Bellboating, Canoeing, Kayaking, Sailing, Snorkelling,
Sub Aqua - our Scouts had a marvellous time at Splash
Camp. We won't say who capsized during sailing and
had to be pulled into the Rescue Boat by Bis!!
The
It's A Knockout was good and the fencing something
different - see the movie on YouTube:-
We were delighted to host two Guides, their fun and
friendship made our camp even better and we will be very
disappointed if they cannot join us next year. They are
definitely zany enough to join our crazy gang. The
Scouts took turns to shop at Lidl, cook and wash up.
We will not disclose the identity of the Scout who chose
the chocolate gateau to eat in 30 minutes, then back at
camp read the instruction "defrost for 4-5 hours"!
After cutting it into pieces to help the defrosting
process, one Scout described the gateau as "deliciously
chilled".
We went to the County Splash Camp at the
Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre in September 2006.
We had a fabulous time there, many thanks to the
organisers and instructors who worked so hard on our
behalf.
We pitched camp alongside the rest of
the 120 Scouts. We also cooked all our own meals,
although we had to use gas stoves instead of the wood
fires that we prefer.
Canoeing and kayaking on the river Soar was good - we
suspect that the only reason the instructors make us
play games is so that we fall in the water. Being very environmentally friendly
our girls decided to save on the need for showers by
bathing in the river Soar!!!!!!!!
We started off by developing our
paddling teamwork, which meant that we could easily
outpace our rivals in their red boat.
We were attacked by a hoard of mangy canoeists, but our
supreme paddling soon put them to flight or capsized
them, even if some dared to board us.
Our battle hardened victorious bellboat warriors then
taught the red boat a lesson as we out-splashed them so
much that their instructor felt obliged to demonstrate
our superiority by jumping into the river Soar.
The final activity was the bellboat tug of war - two
boats tied together and paddling in opposite directions
- we didn't win but it was great fun and afterwards some
of our Scouts felt they were too dry so they jumped into
the canal.
A minibus took us to
Watermead Country Park so that we could sail on the
lake. After being launched on the Topper dinghys,
a couple of our scouts decided to test both the water
temperature and the effectiveness of the rescue boats.
While half the Scouts went to the
swimming pool for snorkelling, the others tried out the
shooting range. In accordance with Scout
regulations they are restricted to .177 air guns.
While waiting to have a go we had a lengthy discussion
on safety and how the sport is spoilt by idiots who have
air guns at home and take pot shots at lamp posts, cats
etc. For the full range photo the guns were double
checked to ensure that they were empty.
