Location -
4th Derby (Derwent) Scout Group HQ The Group started
in 1908 and are thus celebrating their centenary.
They have been at their present site since 1936.
See
http://www.4thderby.org.uk/
HQ facilities
comprise:-
1. Large
hall, approx FOUR times the size of ours,
painted with a Harry Potter theme..
2. Kitchen
with 5 burner catering sized stove and oven. There
are cooking pots, trays, utensils, plates, cutlery, mugs
etc. which allied with the fridge and freezer makes the
catering relatively easy.
3. Separate
gents, ladies and disabled toilets, plus a shower.
4. There is
an activity room with space for computers or arts /
crafts.
5. We will
sleep in the various rooms, having pitched dome tents.
We will need to strike the tents during the day to
optimise the use of the floor space.
6. Parking
for six or more cars, limited grounds with fire areas.
|
Activities
that can take place in the HQ include:- |
|
Table Tennis Competition - The Scout Group has
three table tennis tables so we will definitely be
holding some form of table tennis competition. |
|
Uni Hoc
Competition - The size of the hall will facilitate a
six a side indoor hockey tournament, which will give a
lot more scope than the three a side games we have
played in our HQ. |
|
Archery Tournament - In our own HQ we are
restricted to a minimum length range. There is
scope for a longer range and more archers to shoot
simultaneously in Derby. |
|
Volleyball
Competition - There is plenty of room for a
volleyball competition (with a soft ball) and the
ceiling height gives plenty of scope for some good
shots. |
|
IT Badges
-The separate activity room has a number of PCs, which
allied to the equipment that we can take gives a lot
more scope to catch up on the IT badges. |
|
Card School - If you have not experienced the
joys of Trumps, Switch, Rummi, Pontoon and other games,
even Whist, then now is the time for your education to
start. |
|
Badges and
Challenges Review - In small groups you will be able
to review your Scouting activities to date, thereby
signing off the requirements for some of the badges and
challenges. |
Laser Tag Choice - Megazone or Quasar? - You decide
We have a choice between visiting Quasar which is
only half a mile away from the Scout HQ and Megazone
which is about 3 miles away in the City Centre.
Does anyone have recent experience of either of these
venues? |
What is Megazone? 3
games £8.00 www.megazone-derby.co.uk
Plunged into
the semi darkness of the playing arena you sense
movement. Lights flash, smoke swirls.
The music
pounds. Suddenly a shadow comes to life. A bright red
laser beam cuts through the darkness and barely misses
you. Your heart pounds as you race for cover with your
laser gun and you return fire - deactivating the enemy
sniper. It’s as if you’ve entered a different dimension,
where
enemies lurk in the dark recesses equipped with state of
the art laser hardware. You must depend on your reflexes
to survive.
The Megazone
adventure starts with a tour of the playing arena and a
briefing on your mission. It is during this time that
you learn of the adventure ahead, and arrange your
teams.
Games are
played in a themed arena, filled with smoke, music and
lighting effects. Equipped with state of the art laser
hardware, players track each other and defend their team
bases using strategy and skill. Your team objective:
track down the enemy bases and deactivate them, tagging
enemy opponents as you make your way through the arena.
Guard your base station from the opposition and score
bonus points from the deadly sentinels and mines.
|
Quasar - Junior 1 Game £3.50, 2 Games £6.00, 3 Games
£7.00 www.tenpin.co.uk/home/the_tenpin_experience/quasar.stml
Stalk
your opponents through a futuristic quasar/lazer
landscape featuring ramps, gangways, strobe and
UV lighting, swirling fog and music with the
goal of shooting your opponents and destroying
their base using state-of-the-art laser gun
equipment.
Lead
your team into the Airlock and receive your
mission briefing, safety check and rules of
engagement before entering the quasar/lazer
battle arena (features vary across arenas). Each
player is armed with state-of-the-art laser gun
equipment and body armour covered in laser
sensors to identify if you get hit!
To score points you need to land a laser strike
within the area of the pack and gun, but
remember your opponents will be trying to do the
same! You will know if you are hit as your
armour vibrates and you are knocked out of the
quasar/lazer game temporarily.

We pitch camp at Willesley on the Thursday night.
We lay out our site so that each Patrol has its own
sleeping tents, kitchen area and fire place. At
camp each Patrol collects its own wood, lights its own
fires, chooses its own menu and cooks its own meals. |
 |
|
 |
There are lots of competitions at the camp:-
- Camp Gateway - we always build some form of
gateway / climbing frame so that we can have lots of
fun climbing over it. We reckon to have more
fun with ours than any of the other entries, we tend
to be one of the top 3 gateways as well.
- Camp Skills - a competition covering overall
camp skills.
- Cooking - very popular with our Scouts who
produce some amazing meals, last time one Patrol
cooked a traditional chicken roast while the other
Patrol cooked a chinese meal. We were
victorious at the last two camps.
- Sports - football, tug of war, air rifles, sedan
chair race, obstacle course etc.
|
 |
|
 |
There are also lots of other activities such as:-
Climbing and abseiling on the tower
Crate stacking - see how high you can go.
Camp fire - a camp fire with hundreds taking part is
great fun.
Camp starts
at 6.30 p.m. on the Friday and ends at lunch time on the
Monday. We will know more about the programme at
the Leaders' meeting at the end of February. |
 |
|
 |
This is one
of our main camps and important training for the week's
summer camp. Camp open to current Scouts, Cubs
transferring January / February and (with Akela's
permission) Cubs due to transfer to Scouts in the summer
of 2009. It is anticipated that the 3 night
camp will cost £30 and a £10 deposit will be required at
the end of January. Declaration of intent by 15th
November please.

The Beavers
always have a great time at the District Beaver and
Parent Camp. But that frequently seems to be
secondary to the absolutely fabulous time the parents
have.
But one thing
is absolutely essential - Parents must have a Scout
Group CRB clearance. To make sure that you are not
disappointed or left biting your nails hoping that the
clearance comes through in time, it is
recommended that you apply for your CRB form before the
end of Devcember. |
 |
 |
We usually
camp with the Market Bosworth Beaver Scout Colony and
share the catering with them.
We turn up on
the Friday evening to pitch the camp, nip home for a
good night's sleep then return for the start of the camp
at 10.00 am Saturday. |
 |
 |
There are always loads of activities for everyone to
do. They are based upon a theme. Recent
themes were countries of the world and Disney. |
